Gutter Clips
The first step to hanging your Christmas lights is to get some gutter clips. Gutter clips will make the job more manageable while protecting the gutters from damage. If you have standard gutters, you can find gutter clips at Lowes, Home Depot, or a local hardware store. They are usually made of plastic and hook onto the gutters easily. Most gutter clips will work for whatever kind of lights you intend to use. Test the lights before stringing them to make sure they are working. Then slide the Christmas lights through the slits in the gutter clips one at a time.
Adhesive Clips for Gutter Guards
If you have gutter guards that make placing the clips difficult, adhesive clips are available as an alternative. However, the adhesive hooks will stick better on clean surfaces, so if your gutters are visibly dirty on the outside, you may want to wipe them off first to remove dirt or debris. To attach adhesive gutter clips, press them firmly to the front of the gutters and string the lights through the slits.
